HOW TO MEASURE FOR YOUR HELMET:

Here's the easiest way to measure for either a Z-1 or an Evo: Take a cloth tape or sturdy string and find the circumference of your head above the ears at the widest point. I suggest that you do the measurement in the middle of the tape and do the math; if you are working with a string, translate it to a ruler.

SIZING INFORMATION FOR OUR HELMETS:

SMALL: 21 1/4 - 21 7/8 inches; MEDIUM: 22 - 22 1/2 inches; LARGE: 22 5/8 - 23 inches; X LARGE: 23 1/4 - 23 3/4 inches; XX LARGE: 23 7/8 - 24 1/8 inches;

Evo sizing tends to run just a bit smaller than the Z-1 and Fairwind, so if you are on the edge of a size difference, order the next size larger. Remember, if you make the wrong selection it is a simple matter of mailing a liner back and forth to correct the problem!

HOW TO PUT ON THE Z-1 (duh!):

You are probably laughing, but there is a trick to this -- a better way to put on the helmet so you do not put stress on the neck attachment. Put a thumb under the chin portion of the liner and a thumb at the center back. While looking straight ahead, pull the helmet down straight over the head. The helmet portion ends just under the lip and the neck attachment should snug under the chin (see pic at page top). Now tighten the bungie to fit your head and stow the rest of the elastic in the hole in the back. DO NOT TIGHTEN THIS EVERY TIME YOU PUT THE HELMET ON -- you will stress the jointure to the helmet. Good job!

ABOUT Z-1 LENS FOGGING:

Although your lens has an anti-fog coating on it, warm air on the inside applied right next to the lens (usually from your nose) will cause fogging. The problem is typically corrected by a simple adjustment of the liner - disconnect the liner under the nose and reattach it below the actual helmet (visor) opening. Also, make sure that you adjust the helmet down so that your nose is not touching the liner. This allows better air flow and typically eliminates the problem.

ABOUT LOCKING THE Z-1 VISOR:

Casual closing of your visor may not lock it in position for freefall. Get in the habit of closing it and pushing it down a second time to hear it click into the locked position.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR HELMET LOOKING GOOD:

WASHABLE LINER -- Your liner is washable (how nice when you have a cold or if you are a smoker!) Just put it into a laundry bag (or a pillow case for you bachelors) and put it into the washing machine. Air dry, please.

REMOVING MARKS -- First, remove the visor or protect the lens with plastic before working with any cleaning or polishing agents. Most of the marks on your helmet will be color added, not taken away. Clean your helmet with water and just a bit of Murphy's Oil Soap and a soft cloth. More persistant marks may be removed with a diluted bit of Soft Scrub with light circular rubbing motion -- most will go away! I suggest doing this on a small area first (maybe under the visor!) and see how it goes. I touch up the gloss helmet paint with "Testors" paints made for model cars -- you can get them at most hobby stores and they do wonders. Magic markers in the same color are also good for a quick fix, particularly on the soft touch finishes. Soft Touch finishes look like new when cleaned with Soft Scrub and a soft cloth. On the shiny finishes, a final bit of car wax puts a nice protective finish on your work.

HOW TO CLEAN THE Z-1 LENS -- Use a very soft cloth and clean water for this project - no glass cleaners or abrasive fabrics! The lens has an anti-fog coating on the inside and an anti-scratch coating on the outside that will damage if cleaned by any other method.

HOW TO CHANGE OUT THE Z-1 LENS -- The lens on your visor is changeable and we stock the clear and specialty lenses. There are now two bolt assemblies currently being used and I will talk you through working with both. For both, take the visor off your helmet: insert a quarter into the slotted bolt, compress the bolt and nut and rotate 90 degrees until the bolt arm is out of the cradle. You may need to assist the separation the first time by gently prying apart on the inside of the helmet. Now take the old lens off. Clean away old adhesive on the visor with GOOF OFF or similar solvent. DO NOT REMOVE THE TAPE OR THE PROTECTIVE COVERINGS OFF YOUR NEW LENS EXCEPT NEAR THE HOLES BOTH FRONT AND BACK.

**WITH SLOTTED BOLT ON OUTSIDE OF HELMET**: Insert the bolts through the visor and the new lens and then stack the black washers on the lens; stack all of these onto the helmet but do not yet install the nuts. Now remove the tape and the protective film on the front side of the lens and adhere it to the visor from the center out (this allows equal stress across the lens). Make sure the lens is flush to the visor at the pin hole. Now, one side at a time, install the spring and nut - compress the entire bolt assembly, and rotate until the bolt arm is in the nut cradle. Now remove the protective film from the back of the new lens.

**WITH SLOTTED BOLT ON INSIDE OF HELMET**: Insert the bolts into the helmet and stack the washers, lens and visor onto the helmet. The lens should not be attached to the visor, but should be rotated close to attachment point. Now, one side at a time, install the spring and nut - compress the entire bolt assembly, and rotate until the bolt arm is in the nut cradle. Now remove the tape and the protective film on the front side of the lens and adhere it to the visor from the center out (this allows equal stress across the lens). Make sure the lens is flush to the visor at the pin hole. Now remove the protective film from the back of the new lens.

Finally, rotate the visor down and close it over the pin until you hear a click. You may need to apply pressure from the front of the visor until your new lens takes a "set". Feel free to call UNFEATHERED if you need assistance! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
